Tropical Storm IDA Blows Through Pensacola Beach

The wind howled all night and the rain beat down on Penesacola Beach, but unlike in some past storms the main beachfront road was not flooded and power remained on. The beach suffered some erosion but again we were spared the harshest of beatings. What the heck, its almost Thanksgiving! Remember the early storm before this Hurricane Season, seems the gods above are playing with our heads! Let’s say good bye to the 2009 Hurricane Season along the Emerald Coast. Come and visit, after some clean up we really do have the most beautiful beaches in the world.

2/22/2009 – 2009 Mardi Gras Parade on the Beach hosted by the Krewe of Wrecks Parade consists of over 40 entries all with participants all dressed in their Mardi Gras finest! Beads will be flying when the parade starts at 2:00 p.m. on Pensacola Beach. Bring your families and your imagination for this fun-filled event!

The Pensacola Double Bridge Run 15K carries runners over two bridges, across Pensacola Bay and Santa Rosa Sound. It will run from downtown Pensacola with a tour that includes the historic district, and picturesque Bayfront Parkway, a run through Gulf Breeze, and onto Pensacola Beach. The 5K invites both runners and walkers to travel from Gulf Breeze to beautiful Pensacola Beach on Santa Rosa Island and the Gulf Islands National Seashore.

Lighted Boat Parade

Decorated vessels parade against a dark December sky starting at 7 p.m. The boats parade from Pensacola Beach Marina to the Boardwalk. Children will be given light sticks to illuminate the beach behind Portofino Boardwalk. Captains will compete for prizeds as the nautical parade delivers Santa Claus officially to the Island.

The Dock Strong Man Contest

Event will be taking place at the Dock and in Casino Parking Lot. The contest begins at 10:00 a.m. and goes to 7:00 p.m. There will be stone lifting, Yoke Walks, Hercules Holds, Log Presses, Tire Flips and Semi pulls. Santa Rosa Island Triathlon Starts at 7:30am. Swim 1/3 mile in Gulf of Mexico, with wave starts.(alternate course – Santa Rosa Sound). Bike 18 miles (nine miles out and back) on a scenic flat asphalt road into the Gulf Islands National Seashore. Run 3.1 miles through a beachfront residential neighborhood.
Early Registration ends July 31. Go to www.sritri.org and register online with active.com or print an entry from the website for off-line registration.
